A mixture of Dendrobaena venata and Eisenia fetida supplied in 5 litres of safe bedding taken from their breeding beds. Supplying the worms in their own bedding means that they arrive to you in an environment they are happy in, as well as the worms it contains all the micro-organisms needed to get your worm composting off to the best possible start. If you look carefully you will also spot worm coccons, they are lemon shaped and only a few millimetres in size, in 6 to 8 weeks they will hatch producing more baby worms. We supply a mix of worms because they have slightly different likes and dislikes and we have found that a combination of these two species is best for worm composting. Dendrobaena tend to like a slightly wetter environment and are often found lower down in the worm bin while Eisenia like things slightly drier and often congregate near the top.The amount of food worms eat is directly related to the weight of worms you have, 1/2 kg of worms ( approx. 1000 worms ) will eat 250g of food waste a day in optimal conditions. If you look after your worms they should double their population in 4 to 6 months. You don't have to worry about ending up with too many, these extraordinary creatures will self regulate their population.
You can be assured that because we hand harvest our worms on the day of dispatch and send them out in safe bedding they will arrive to you in peak condition, they will live happily in their tub for a month or so if you are not ready to move them to their new home.
