What is Worm Composting?
Worm composting, or vermicomposting as it is properly called, uses a workforce of worms to turn organic waste into wonderful worm casts. It is usually carried out in a wormery or worm bin. There are dozens of different commercially available wormeries or you can make your own.
What is the difference between worm composting and ordinary composting?
Composting is a way of accelerating the process of decomposition of dead organic matter by creating optimal conditions for the host of micro-organisms that do the decomposing. Depending on the type of composting it can take anything from 9 months to 2 years to produce compost. If you have a compost bin you do not need a wormery because you can add your fruit and vegetable waste to the compost bin. However a wormery has many advantages.
 Adavantages of using a wormery:
1.Worm composting is a much quicker process, in optimal conditions worms will turn food waste into vermicompost in 3 to 4 months.
2. Can be done all year round
3.Less time consuming than garden composting
4. Wormeries are enclosed units so rodents aren’t a problem
5.Clean, safe and odour free
6.Can be used inside or out
7.Produces free worm casts – much higher in nutrients than ordinary compost and also confer disease and pest resistance to plants grown using it.
8. Much more fun
