Mixed Composting/Wormery Worms (Approx 600 to 800 depending on size)

We breed worms on our farm in Worcestershire that you are welcome to visit. The worms are hand harvested on the day of dispatch and sent out to you in a bag with bedding culture taken from our breeding beds, the worms will be a mix of young and mature worms. The bedding is an environment the worms are used to and happy to live in. It contains all the nutrients the worms need to keep them happy for several weeks. The bedding is also teeming with all the beneficial micro-organisms that are necessary to get a wormery or composting system off to a great start, it will also contain worm cocoons so your worm population will soon expand. The worms will be a mix of sizes.

The worms and bedding are packaged in a sac with plenty of ventilation so the worms arrive to you happy and healthy.

 We do not use any chemical fertilisers or pesticides on our farm so our worms are bred in organic conditions.
Our aim is to encourage and inspire you to turn your food waste into something wonderful, worm casts and a wormery is a great way for fishermen to have a never ending supply of bait. Our Worm Works Wormeries are ideal for this purpose.

Your worms will arrive in a bag with bedding. If you are not ready to add them to your compost bin or wormery straight away the worms will happily live in this environment for a week or two. Keep them somewhere cool e.g a shed or garage. If you are not using them for over a week tip the contents into a bucket and toss the contents about gently to give them some aeration once a week. The bedding should be moist but not sopping wet, the sort of moisture content of a wrung out sponge. If the bedding has become dry spray it with some water. The same applies when you add them to your compost bin, check every so often that the contents are not too dry or too wet. If too soggy add dry wripped up newspaper or shredded paper or cardboard to soak up some of the moisture. When you are ready to add them to your compost bin dig a hole with your hands in some of the partly decomposed compost and add the contents of your bag of worms then cover them up again If adding to a wormery you can add some chopped up food waste and some damp shredded paper then cover then with a piece of cardboard or some sheets of newspaper to keep them damp and dark Worms are resilient animals and withstand wide ranges of temperature. If it is below freezing they will survive but they will huddle together for body warmth and won’t eat very much until the weather warms up. You can lay an old bit of carpet or old jumper on top of the compost if you want to keep it warmer. We send out worms Monday to Thursday. Apologies but the cost of postage has had to go up to £12 because we now have to use Royal Mail Special Delivery, 1st class post is too unreliable.please leave instructions as to where your worms may be left if you are not in to receive them e.g. by back door. We do not dispatch on  a Friday as we don't want the worms hanging around in a depot over the weekend.
